New Haven, Conn. – A goal in the first half helped the Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference road victory at Southern Connecticut State University earlier this evening.
As both teams both looked to gain control throughout the first 20 minutes, the momentum quickly swung in the way of the Panthers in the 22nd minute.
Federico De Oliveira dribbled past three defenders after finding a feed from
Caelan Hueber and finished to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
The Brown and Gold ended the first 45 minutes with an 8-3 advantage in shots while Southern Connecticut manufactured three corners while not yielding one to the Panthers.
Sergio Reyes for Adelphi and Ansbito Basquin each made two saves for their respective teams.
The Panthers looked to create another strike early in the second half as
Christian Lird had hit shot saved in the 52nd minute followed by
Jordan Daniel having his attempt blocked in the 54th minute. Adelphi created four more shots in the half but were unable to finish their chances as Basquin made three saves. However, Reyes made two more saves to keep the Owls off the board and preserve the shutout.
Adelphi returns to the road this Saturday with a trip to Manchester, N.H. to face Saint Anselm at 4:00 pm.
