Garden City, N.Y.  – Behind a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) win this evening against Southern Connecticut State, Adelphi University volleyball Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight notched her 200th career victory. Also in the process, the Panthers moved to 7-0 at home as well as in the conference and won their 11th straight match.
The Brown and Gold (16-4, 7-0 NE-10) finished the evening with a team hitting percentage of .347 that helped create 46 kills in three sets.
McKenna Clawson and
Mandy Stanislovaitis led the team with 10 kills each with respective hitting percentages of .588 and .455.
Madison Canestrari added eight kills and seven total blocks while Clawson recorded nine digs and two service aces. Meanwhile,
Sierra Crook posted 12 kills and
Megan Manierski notched 34 assists.
The Brown and Gold originally took their first lead of the night at 8-7 after a block from Stanislovaitis and Canestrari, and rarely looked back from that point. The Panthers rallied off nine straight points after holding a 16-14 lead to claim the first set, capped off by a kill from Stanislovaitis. During that stretch, Clawson posted two service aces along with a kill while Stanislovaitis and
Shelby Stoner each put down two kills.
A shorter run late in the second game helped Adelphi to once again close out the win as a 3-0 run secured a 25-17 victory. A kill from
Amanda Borges off the bench, one of six she posted in the second and third sets, gave the Panthers a 20-14 lead and they tallied the final three points on two attack errors by the Owls before Clawson swung for a kill off a set from
Hailey Yates. A block from Clawson and Canestrari capped off an early 9-1 streak for Adelphi that helped create a 10-3 lead early in the frame that aided in a large enough margin for the win.
Jumping out to another quick lead, Stoner gave Adelphi an 8-3 advantage in the third set as the squad looked for the match sweep. The Brown and Gold continued to build the lead to as large as eight points at 19-11 on an attack error from Southern Connecticut State before a Canestrari kill finished off the night at 25-17.
In her ninth season, MacKnight owns a career record of 200-94 that includes two Northeast-10 Conference Championships. Additionally, Adelphi has qualified for eight straight NCAA Tournaments under MacKnight.
"I am happy to have won my 200th game coaching here at Adelphi," MacKnight said. "However, I could not have done it without the great players I have been able to coach both past and present, so I want to thank each and every one of them!"
The Panthers are back on the road this Friday for a 7:00 pm match in Waltham, Mass. against the Falcons of Bentley University.
