Two Goals From Gomez Helps Women's Soccer To Sixth Straight Win At Pace, 2-1

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Two goals from Laura Gomez helped the 13th ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team hold on for a 2-1 victory at Pace this evening during Northeast-10 Conference victory, marking the team's sixth straight win while also being unbeaten in the last 12 contests.

Gomez afforded the Panthers an early lead as the forward scored in just the third minute. Gomez was able to beat Pace goalkeeper Aisha Chauhan to the left side of the net and score her seventh goal of the season. Adelphi continued to keep the pressure on with nine shots that forced Chauhan to make four saves while Anne Marie Ulliac stopped two shots as the Setters attempted five in the half.

Looking to create a large margin for Adephi, Gomez was able to find the back of the net again in the 63rd minute. Gomez again played from the left side of the field and was able to beat a few defenders and send a strike over Chauhan's head for the second goal of the game.

The second tally from Gomez proved to be pivotal for Adelphi as Pace found the back of the net in the 67th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Tabatha Gonzalez headed in a pass from Danielle May about 10 yards out that helped the host bring the score within one. However, Ulliac made three saves throughout the final 23 minutes to preserve the victory.

The freshman goalkeeper finished with seven saves for the victory while Chauhan stopped nine saves for Pace. Adelphi manufactured 19 shots while yielding 14 to the Setters.
Adelphi plays the second of three straight road games on Friday with a 3:30 pm start in Springfield, Mass. versus American International.
