Kutztown, Penn. -- The Adelphi University women's bowling team opened their season with a perfect 5-0 afternoon at the Kutztown University Baker Invitational on Saturday, October 17.
In their opening match, the Panthers received a bye before facing off against the Bison of Howard University in the first of two meetings between the teams on the afternoon. The Panthers rolled an 869 series to edge Howard, who bowled an 803, and followed that up with a dominating 931-747 win over Mount Alyousis.
The Brown and Gold continued their good form with an 858 series against Medaille, coming out with the victory as their opponents managed to roll a 728 series. In their next match, the Panthers posted their biggest margin of victory on the afternoon, outscoring Coppin State University by a 849 to 561 margin. In the final match of Baker play, Adelphi and Howard met again, and the Panthers came out with another victory -- this time edging a 903-876 final score to complete the 5-0 day.
In total, the Panthers tallied an overall score of 5,335, good enough for fifth place overall and second amongst Division II teams behind the host Bears. In her first tournament in a Panther uniform,
Lena Sorrentino posted a frame average on 20.05 and earned inclusion on the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
The Panthers continue action in Pennsylvania on Sunday, October 19 with the Kutztown Team Invitational.
