Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#20 Women's Soccer Grounds the Ravens, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. -- A strike by Laura Gomez in the 29th minute opened the scoring for the Adelphi University women's soccer team on Saturday night, and the Panthers eventuall came away with a 3-0 victory over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens behind two goals in the second half from Victoria Antonino and Kelsey Malles.

The Panthers (10-2-2, 8-0-2 NE-10) held a 9-4 advantage in total shots in the opening half, and Gomez forced Ravens keeper Katie Weldon to make a save just 1:11 into the contest. The Panthers' second opportunity to get on the board early came off the foot of Jenine Nunez, who had a one-on-one opportunity against Weldon just 57 seconds later but missed wide left. Nunez, Morgan Santoro and Kelsey Simpson all challenged Weldon in the ensuing minute but came up empty before the Ravens (6-6, 4-6 NE-10) got their first shot off against Anne Marie Ulliac, which she duly stopped.

After Ulliac made another save againt Nathalia da Silva, the Panthers sprinted down the field and Gomez fired a strike from well outside the box and found the back of the net up high to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead, and Weldon ensured the game remained that way until halftime by making three saves on the three ensuing shots she faced.

Just over six minutes into the second half, Antonino doubled the score for Adelphi as Weldon tipped a Brianna Doran shot that was picked up by Kelsey Malles and dished off to Antonino for the goal. Just three minutes later, Malles added to her night by cleaning up her own rebound and firing into the back of the net for the 3-0 final.

Ulliac posted her fourth shutout in the past five games in goal, making three stops, while Weldon made 11 saves in the losing effort.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, October 20 when they travel to Pace University for a 7 pm NE-10 contest.
