Garden City, N.Y. – Every Adelphi University men's soccer team goal had an answer from the third ranked Southern New Hampshire squad as the Penmen went on for a 3-2 victory earlier today in Northeast-10 Conference action on Motamed Field.
Looking to jump ahead on the upset bid,
Federico De Oliveira created an early 1-0 lead for the Brown and Gold in the 10th minute. De Oliveira was able to create space in the Panther half of the field without being challenge, allowing the midfielder to strike inside the box and put a goal past the diving Nick Zucco for Southern New Hampshire.
The Penmen were quick on the response as Sebastian Stezewski put in his own unassisted goal in the 17th minute to create a 1-1 tie. However, Adelphi once again found the lead with a headed from
Caelan Hueber in the 23rd minute that deflected off a defender and made its way past Zucco.
Southern New Hampshire went into the half with a 3-2 lead after back-to-back goals in the matter of four minutes. In the 37th minute, Gilbert Manier was able to send in a quick pass off the corner kick set that found the head of Rayane Boukemia to tie the game at 2-2. The 3-2 lead was found in the 41st minute as another corner kick allowed Enzo Giuliani to head home the go-ahead strike. Johnathan Lupinelli chipped in the direct pass off the Sofiane Tergou corner kick.
The Panthers held advantages in both shots, 10-4, and corner kicks, 4-2, despite trailing 3-2. Zucco made four saves in the half to help preserve the lead for the Penmen.
The Penmen gain control in the second half with an 11-6 shot advantage as well as a 5-1 margin in corner kicks. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in the 3-2 win for Southern New Hampshire.
Adelphi returns to the road this Wednesday with a 7:00 pm matchup at Southern Connecticut State.
