Santoro Lifts #20 Women's Soccer To 1-0 Victory Against #10 Saint Rose

Garden City, N.Y. – After 85 minutes of scoreless action, the 20th ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team broke through in the 86th minute of a 1-0 victory versus 10th ranked Saint Rose on Motamed Field earlier tonight. This is the first victory for the Panthers against Saint Rose since a 4-0 decision on September 19, 1999 under then Head Coach Rich Ilsey.

In the 86th minute, Morgan Santoro lifted the Brown and Gold to the top-20 matchup victory with a strike to break the scoreless tie. The midfielder was set up from Jeanine Nunez on the outside of the left edge and drove left footed strike perfectly to the top right corner to push the Panthers ahead.

In the first 45 minutes, Adelphi controlled an 11-2 shot advantage as well as a 2-1 corner kick margin. However, Saint Rose goalkeeper Madison Taylor kept the Panthers off the board with five saves. On the opposite side, Anne Marie Ulliac was forced to make one stop on the two Golden Knight shots.

Saint Rose controlled the opening stages of the second half with five shots and two corner kicks from the 48th minute through the 53rd minute. Ulliac made both of her saves during that stretch that helped shift the play back towards Adelphi. Kelsey Malles had an opportunity turned away in the 57th minute as Taylor made a sliding play at the top of the box to avoid the threat.

With both teams looking for the game-winner in the final stages and not turning to overtime, Santoro found room on the left side to take her chance and put the Brown and Gold ahead with less than five minutes left.

Taylor finished her evening with eight saves for the Golden Knights while Ulliac picked up her ninth win on the year after making three stops.

Adelphi looks ahead to another home match this Saturday by hosting Franklin Pierce for a 6:00 pm start on Motamed Field.
