Syracuse, N.Y. – After creating a 3-0 lead, the Adelphi University women's soccer team held off host Le Moyne 4-2 earlier today during Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute with
Taylor Salmon finding the back of the net. Salmon scored the first strike off a short corner pass from
Jeanine Nunez just outside the penalty box.
Right before the end of the half, Nunez was on the finishing end of the second goal with
Samantha Lanza setting up the tally. The sophomore one touched Lanza's pass from six yards out. The two goals were a part of 12 shots created by the Brown and Gold while yielding just two. The group also chalked up five corner kicks.
Another quick start occurred for Adelphi to open the second half as Salmon was once again a part of the attack, this time picking up the assist. The senior crossed in a ball from the left side of the penalty box to find
Laura Gomez inside the box with Gomez finishing off the play to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage in the 48th minute.
Holding that lead for more than 12 minutes, Le Moyne cut into the lead with a goal from Kirsten Colegrove from 20 yards out on the right side. The Adelphi lead was again shortened to 3-2 as Samantha Ciulla scored off a corner from the left side into the middle of the net.
With the margin remaining at one goal in the 74th minute,
Kelsey Simpson helped increase the score to 4-2 off a pass from
Kelsey Malles. Malles crossed in from the left flank to set up Simpson from 12 yards out and finishing inside the right post.
Anne Marie Ulliac made one of her three saves in the final 16 minutes to keep the Dolphins off the board and preserve the 4-2 win. The freshman keeper finished her afternoon with four saves, matching her counterpart Tori Corsaro who made all of her saves in the first period.
Both teams manufactured six shots in the final period, however, Adelphi finished the day with an 18-8 advantage in the category while also leading 7-1 in corner kicks.
Looking ahead, the Panthers welcome 10th ranked Saint Rose for a 7:00 pm match on Wednesday.
