Worcester, MA – Assumption led for nearly the entire contest on the way to an 82-64 Northeast-10 Conference victory against the visiting Adelphi University men's basketball team earlier this afternoon.
Duane Morgan shot 5-for-7 from the field to lead the Panthers (4-12/1-9 NE-10) with 15 points.
Anthony Libroia added 14 points and five assists while
Damon Coleman added 11 points and
Ryan DeNicola contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Assumption (7-9/4-7 NE-10) shot 54.4 percent (31-for-57) as five players scored in double-figures led by 19 points from Kamali Bey. Karl Ziegler poured in 18 points while Terrance Bobb-Jones and Jimmy Zenevitch added "double-doubles" of 12 points and 13 rebounds and 11 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Reilly Reid came off the bench for 10 points.
Two free throws from Bey with 1:26 left in the first half gave the host Greyhounds their largest lead of the half of 16 points at 38-22. Assumption used several short runs to grow the advantage, shooting 15-for-31 (48.4 percent) from the field and outscoring the Panthers in the paint 24-10 to go into halftime with a 38-24 lead.
Bey and Zenevitch each scored eight points for Assumption with Zenevitch adding five rebounds.
Justin Jenkins led the effort for the Brown and Gold with seven points and three rebounds behind 3-for-3 shooting from the charity stripe.
Ryan DeNicola contributed four points and five rebounds.
The Greyhounds continued to extend their lead throughout the second half, growing an advantage to as large as 23 points that was first achieved with 10:28 remaining on the heels of a Ziegler jumper. Assumption shots 61.5 percent (16-for-26) in the second half with Bey and Ziegler each leading the way with 11 points each.
The Panthers continue play away from home this Wednesday with another trip to the Northeast to face Southern New Hampshire at 7:30 pm.
