Manchester, NH – Southern New Hampshire improved its shooting in the second half to upend the Adelphi University men's basketball team 80-68 earlier this evening during Northeast-10 Conference cross-divisional play.
Duane Morgan shot 7-for-10 from the field on the way to a team-high 19 points for Adelphi (4-13/1-10 NE-10).
Damon Coleman shot 4-of-4 from beyond the arc towards 14 points while
Anthony Libroia went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe as part of 12 points.
Southern New Hampshire (11-5/9-3 NE-10) went 21-for-24 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line along with outrebounding Adelphi 35-23. Rodney Sanders led four players in double-figures with 20 points while Aleksandar Dobrovic contributed 15 points and nine rebounds.
Justin Jenkins afforded the Panthers their largest lead of the first half with 7:26 remaining behind his first of two three pointers in the half to create a 27-21 advantage. The Penmen closed the period out on an 11-7 run to cut the Adelphi lead to 34-32 at halftime.
The Brown and Gold shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the floor compared to 37.9 percent (11-for-29) for the host Southern New Hampshire in the opening half. Despite the difference in shooting, the Penmen remained close at the half due to eight offensive rebounds and 10 second chance points. Jenkins and Coleman combined for 17 points on 5-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc while Sanders led all scorers with 10 points.
After a tie score of 43-43, the Penmen put on a 12-0 run in three minutes to open up a 55-43 and take control of the momentum. Southern New Hampshire was able to expand the lead to 16 points on two occasions, including a 66-50 lead with 8:45 remaining.
Two free throws from Libroia with 3:24 left brought the Panthers to within five points at 69-64, however, Southern New Hampshire closed out the game with an 11-4 run towards the final of 80-68. The Penmen shot 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to secure the victory. Additionally, Southern New Hampshire shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the floor in the final period.
Adelphi returns home to face Merrimack this Saturday at 3:30 pm, following the women's contest. Earlier in the day, the men's and women's basketball coaching staffs are partnering to host "
