Men's Soccer Scores Two Goals Moments Apart For 2-1 Victory at Saint Rose

Two second half goals, 33 seconds apart, propelled the Panthers to a 2-1 win in Albany this evening.

Albany, NY - Two goals 33 seconds apart in the second half erased a 1-0 deficit for Adelphi University in a 2-1 victory at Saint Rose this evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Golden Knights (1-6-1/1-4 NE-10) scored during the 14th minute to open up a 1-0 advantage as Kledis Capollari collected a through ball 12 yards out from Pablo Lajeunesse and finished in the lower left of the net.

Despite trailing at the half, Adelphi (5-3/3-2 NE-10) manufactured four shots compared to just one for Saint Rose, the lone goal of the half.

Playing nearly 50 minutes down 1-0, the Panthers responded in the 63rd minute with two tallies to tie and take the lead. Caelan Hueber scored the equalizer on the left side of the field off a feed from Diego Zuniga. Following moments later, Matt Giaconelli collected a deflection 15 yards out and finished with Chris Joseph picking up the assist.

Senior keeper Ahmad Salamah made his lone save of the game in the 88th minute to preserve the lead as Drew Wingate struck on a ball from approximately 25 yards out.

The Panthers held the edge in shots, 12-8, and corners, 5-3. On other side, Saint Rose was penalized with three offside calls.

"Tonight was a class NE-10 match," said Head Coach Carlo Acquista. "Fast paced, athletic, very organized match. Saint Rose is well coached and motivated to do well. Credit to my guys to go on the road and get a result after dropping two matches last week."

Adelphi returns to Motamed Field this Saturday for a 3:00 pm start against conference foe Saint Anselm. The game can be watched free of charge presented by TD Bank on www.AUPanthers.TV.
