Garden City, NY – The Adelphi University women's soccer program improved to 5-0 this evening while keeping intact its shutout streak to start the season with a 3-0 win versus Queens on Motamed Field.
Sophomore
Laura Gomez registered her fourth goal of the season in the first half and classmate
Molly Warren put in her first goal of the year while sophomore
Victoria Antonino put on a dribbling display for the third goal of the contest for Adelphi (5-0). Senior keeper
Sam Whitney made two saves to preserve her second shutout of the season.
Mersina Onesto made five total saves for the Knights (1-2-2), who held the Panthers to less than four goals for the first time this campaign.
After nearly 39 minutes of scoreless action, freshman
Jeanine Nunez was able to control a loose ball and find Gomez in front of the net for the first goal of the contest. The Panthers took that lead into the halftime while leading in shot attempts 8-3 and corners 3-1.
Warren increased the margin less than 20 minutes into the second half by finishing a feed from
Samantha Lanza in front of the left side of the net. Antonino then collected a deflection from the Panther end and dribbled herself nearly three-quarters of the field to build the lead to 3-0.
Next on the docket for the Panthers is a matchup with national and conference rankings implications as the group travels to Albany to face the #1 ranked Saint Rose.
