Box Score Lakewood, NJ - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled south into Lakewood, New Jersey on Thursday, September 18 for a non-conference contest against Georgian Court University. The Panthers picked up their first win of the season, 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 28-26), but needed extra points in the the fourth and final set to put the Lions away. With the win, Adelphi improves to 1-9 overall, while Georgian Court slips to 3-4 on the season.
Mandy Stanislovaitis and
Kaitlyn DeStefano led the offensive charge for Adelphi with 11 and 10 kills, while
Amanda Borges contributed seven to the cause.
Alayna Jackson captained the Panthers with 34 set assists, and
Sierra Crook racked up a game-high 23 digs, with Jackson chipping in 11.
The first game was close, with both teams posting 10 kills, but the hosts committed two more attack errors then the Panthers, which cost them the set, 25-23. Fortunes reversed in the second game with Adelphi committing seven attack errors to just two for Georgian Court, as the Brown and Gold went down 25-21. The Panthers came alive in the third set, collecting a 25-18 victory, but were pushed to extra points by the Lions in game four, and needed every one of their 13 kills in a 28-26 triumph.
Coach's Comments:"It feels great to finally have all of our hard work in preseason and the past few weeks pay off with a win," stated Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight. "The girls showed a lot of heart tonight, but we have a lot to improve on as we get set to start our conference slate of games this Saturday at LeMoyne."
