Garden City, NY – For the third time this season, the Adelphi University women's soccer team put up a 4-0 victory after today's Northeast-10 Conference home win against Southern Connecticut State.
Thus far in the season, the Panthers (4-0/2-0) have yet to allow a goal and have now scored 18 throughout four games. Three of today's four goal scorers registered their first strike of the season with Meliss Rubin,
Donna Liotine, and
Christina Dutcher along with
Samantha Lanza making up the tallies. Senior keeper
Sam Whitney played the first 77 minutes for the victory by making four saves.
The first 43 minutes of action was a defensive struggle for both teams unable to find the back of the net. However, Rubin put the Brown and Gold on the board right before the halftime break with a 28 yard shot from center, deflecting off the goalie's fingers into the top of the net.
Throughout a nearly 14 minute span in the second half, Adelphi took control of the contest with three goals to build the final 4-0 score. Liotine made it 2-0 with a penalty kick that was a result of a hand ball in the box during a shot attempt. Dutcher scored during a 2-on-1 break, being set up by
Laura Gomez. The final strike came from Lanza scoring on the inside right post after a cross from
Bianca Lastra.
The Panthers held a narrow edge against the Owls (1-3/0-2 NE-10) in shots, 12-9, while generating five corner kicks while not yielding one.
Adelphi returns to Motamed Field for a 6:00 pm match against non-conference rival Queens on Saturday.
