Kingsville, TX – The second day of competition concluded late Saturday night at the Emerald Beach Hotel Volleyball Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Kingsville. In match one of the day, the Panthers fell 3-1 to the host Javelinas 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 16-25, 18-25) followed by a 3-0 setback to Eastern New Mexico (18-25, 16-25, 23-25).

Senior Haley Blunt led the Panthers (0-9) attack with 12 kills while adding six digs. Sophomore Mandy Stanislovaitis contributed 11 kills and nine digs with senior Kaitlyn DeStefano posting nine kills and six total blocks. Freshman Megan Manierski totaled 31 assists.

The Javelinas (6-1) had four players in double-digits in the kill column as three individuals racked up 11 each. Casey Klobedans dished out 36 assists.

Midway through the first set, Kingsville jumped out on a run that resulted in a 21-11 advantage. The margin was sufficient enough for the Javelinas to win game one thanks in large part to a .429 hitting percentage compared to eight attacking errors for the Brown and Gold.

Tied at 13 in the second set, a 6-1 run propelled the Panthers to a late lead that forced a Kingsville timeout. The Adelphi run continued after the timeout with a Blunt kill capping off a 25-16 second set victory. Blunt also led the Panthers in the game with six kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Manierski also passed out 13 of the team's 15 assists that helped produce a .519 team hitting percentage.

The Javelinas responded in the third set by taking a 3-2 lead early and not relinquishing that lead that included scoring five of the final six points for a 25-16 victory. Kingsville posted 15 kills in the set with Ashley Bukowski producing a team-high five.

The middle portion of the set again was where the Javelinas jumped on a run to create a lead at 18-11. The Panthers got within four at 21-17, however, the host held on for the 25-18 victory to clinch the set and match.

In the evening match, DeStefano and Stanislovaitis each picked up seven kills.

The Greyhounds (4-4) jumped out to an early lead in the opening set with a 6-0 advantage. Despite separate runs for the Panthers, Eastern New Mexico closed out the final few points of the game for a 25-18 win.

Eastern New Mexico had a repeat start to the second set, going up by nine on two occasions early on in the game. That nine-point spread was the same margin of victory for the Greyhounds to end the second set at 25-16 and grab a 2-0 match advantage.

Back-to-back kills from DeStefano put the Panthers up 7-3 in the third set and forcing a timeout for Eastern New Mexico. A Greyhound rallied to even the set at 11 points aside and progressed into both teams trading points. After the Panthers led 23-20, the Greyhounds closed on a 5-0 run to capture the set and match.

The Panthers return north to face Georgian Court on at 7:00 pm in Lakewood, NJ on Thursday for a non-conference match.
