Box Score West Haven, Conn. – The Adelphi University had its bid for back-to-back Northeast-10 Conference Championships halted today with an 8-0 setback in six innings to Southern New Hampshire, the number two seed from the Northeast Division.
Adelphi goes to 27-18 overall on the season as four players picked up a hit today. Meanwhile, the Penmen improve to 28-13 and move on to the league championship tomorrow. Junior Ali Maloof, the conference Pitcher of the Year, improved her own record to 18-7 with 6.0 shutout innings that included five strikeouts.
Southern New Hampshire jumped on the board early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore infielders Katie Caruso and Lindsey Bolduc along with senior infielder Cara Daly all picked up RBIs in the opening inning.
Bolduc again provided offensive power for Southern New Hampshire in the third inning with a two-run homerun. Senior outfielder Tesia Stanasek drove in two runs of her own later on in the inning to make it 7-0 in favor of the Penmen with a single up the middle.
The decisive run came in the bottom of the sixth with Caruso scoring off of a single from freshman catcher Jessica Torsiello.
