Nick Watson and
Brandon Goodwin scored a combined six goals, pulling the top ranked men's lacrosse team to its 11th straight win, a new program record, with a 11-5, Northeast-10 decision in Worcester, Massachusetts against Assumption College on April 8. With the win, the Panthers rise to a sparkling, 11-0 overall and 8-0 in conference, while the Greyhounds slip to 5-6 and 3-5 in the NE-10.
Watson and
Salvatore Tuttle paced the Panthers with four points each, courtesy of Watson's four tallies and one goal and three assists for Tuttle. Goodwin was the only other Panther with a double digit point total, finding the back of Assumption's net with two goals, while
Tim Daly,
Nick Susko,
Joseph Sciara and Chris Racalbuto chipped in one goal.
Gregory Puskuldjian won 13 of 20 face-offs that he took, while grabbing a team-high nine ground balls, while nine other members of the Brown and Gold collected two ground balls. The defense caused eight Greyhound turnovers, led by
Joe Giardina and Tyler Felice Jennings, who had three and two caused turnovers respectively.
Aidan Bennardo was credited with his 11th victory of the season, making five saves, while
DJ Mauro made nine stops in just over 10 minutes of play.
The Panthers tallied three goals in the first frame, while holding Assumption scoreless. Sciara kicked things off with a tally 5:15 into the action, while Daly and Watson followed with goals of their own at 8:21 and 4:37 left in the first frame. The Greyhounds finally got on the board 70 seconds into the second quarter, but Racalbuto and Goodwin scored just 1:25 apart to push Adelphi's advantage to 5-1 with 4:35 on the clock. Assumption managed to hang one more goal on the board with 90 seconds remaining, as the Panthers took a three goal cushion into the half, 5-2.
The Brown and Gold came out of halftime focused, scoring five of their six second half goals in the third frame, including three from Watson, to put the game out of reach for the hosts, 10-3. The Greyhounds managed to sandwich two goals around a Susko tally in the fourth, but it was not enough, as the Brown and Gold claimed their 11th straight victory.
The triumph established a new program record, passing the mark of 10 consecutive wins that was set in 1966-67 and then equaled by the 2011 Panthers.
