Softball Tripped Up by SCSU Owls, 3-2

Despite out-hitting the hosts, Adelphi was unable to pick up the divisional win Monday afternoon.

Katie Andrews came in for 3.2 innings of work, scattering three hits and holding the Owls to zero runs.
Box Score New Haven, CT -  The Adelphi University softball team traveled to the campus of Southern Connecticut State University to complete their series against the Owls. After sweeping them earlier this month, the Panthers dropped a 3-2 decision to the host team. The loss brings the Brown and Gold to 21-15 overall as they stand at 11-7 in Northeast-10 conference play and 8-6 in the Southwest Division. The Blue and White improve to 13-18, 5-12 in NE-10 play and 4-10 in the division.

Katie Andrews, Jordan Catalano and Mary O'Reilly each had a 2-for-3 day at the plate, the latter two accounting for the two Adelphi runs in the loss. Andrews also appeared on the mound for the Panthers, pitching 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The Brown and Gold came out slow, not capitalizing on a scoring opportunity until the top of the fourth inning, after the Owls had jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Scoring one in the bottom of the first, the hosts would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the third.

Catalano and O'Reilly led off the top of the fourth back-to-back singles to left field. Danielle Cutuli decided to go to the opposite field, singling to right and scoring Catalano. A groundout scored O'Reilly to leave the Panthers trailing 3-2 to eventually end the game.

The team will return to action on Tuesday, April 22 in an NE-10 and divisional contest against the University of New Haven on Janet L. Ficke Field. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
