West Haven, Conn. – The offense was unable to get going today as the Adelphi University softball team dropped two road contests at New Haven, 9-1 in five innings and 2-0 in the finale, during Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Panthers fall to 18-13 overall with a 9-5 conference mark while New Haven improves to 23-11 and 15-7 in the NE-10.

The Brown and Gold were only able to manufacture four hits in today's game, with four individuals accounting for those. Senior pitcher Katie Andrews scored a run while senior outfielder Courtney Sullivan notched an RBI. Andrews and junior infielder Victoria Wink also each drew two walks.

New Haven put three straight innings of scoring to open the first game, culminating with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead. The Panthers attempted to cut into the lead during the top of the fourth as Sullivan drove in Andrews on a bases loaded fielder's choice.

However, the Chargers ended the game early in the fifth inning with two runs on an infield single.

More of a pitchers' duel ensured in the nightcap as Andrews pitched 6.0 inning for Adelphi and struck out four. However, the two runs scored by New Haven in the bottom of the second inning proved to be the difference as the Panthers were only able to come up with two hits, both coming in the seventh inning.

During that seventh inning, Wink and Andrews connected for back-to-back singles with one out. Unfortunately, the rally was cut short on a line drive, double play.

Looking ahead, the Panthers start a three-game series at American International on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2:30 pm.
