Box Score West Haven, Conn. – Eight innings was need to decide the series finale between the Adelphi University softball team and Le Moyne as the Panther came out on top 7-3. The game was played on the campus of New Haven.
The Brown and Gold move to 18-11 and 9-3 in the conference while the Dolphins now sit at 20-12 overall with a league mark of 8-4.
Senior pitcher
Katie Andrews and junior outfielder
Jaclyn Binstock each notched three hits each while Andrews recorded four RBI and Binstock came in to score three runs. Andrews also picked up the win after pitching the final 2.0 innings.
Going into the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead, the Panthers plated another run with Binstock coming home on a sacrifice fly from freshman outfielder
Niki Barbato. However, the Dolphins scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to even the game and force extra innings.
Adelphi quickly responded in the top of the eighth as senior outfielder
Courtney Sullivan laced a leadoff single down the left field line. She later came around to score on a groundout to shortstop from freshman infielder
Danielle Cutuli. Andrews added her own insurance runs with a two RBI single, scoring Binstock and freshman infielder
Christina Palmenteri.
After the two initial Dolphin batters reached base, Andrews produced two pop ups and a ground out to earn her 11th win of the season.
Looking ahead, Adelphi goes into non-conference play with a doubleheader at Caldwell College starting at 3:00 pm on Tuesday.
