Box Score 2 Syracuse, N.Y. – A strong offensive output in the nightcap allowed the Adelphi University softball team a two-game split at Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne. The Dolphins won the opener 7-4 followed by an 11-2, five-inning victory.
With the split, the Panthers go to 15-11 and 11-4 in the conference with the Dolphins moving to 18-10 overall and 9-3 in the NE-10.
Junior infielder
Victoria Wink was highly productive from the plate with a 5-for-5 day with three homeruns. She also added five runs, four RBI, and two walks. Senior pitcher
Katie Andrews also picked up four RBI and earned the game two victory with a complete game.
In game one, Wink cracked the first of her three homeruns with a solo shot in the first inning. Junior catcher
Mary O'Reilly gave the Brown and Gold a 2-0 lead in the second with another solo homerun. However, the host Dolphins scored five runs on just four hits in the bottom of the second inning to jump ahead.
A run each in the third and fourth inning pushed Le Moyne's advantage to 7-2. Wink tried climbing the Panthers closer with an RBI double in the fifth and a solo homer in the seventh to bring the score to 7-4 before the Dolphins closed out the victory.
In the final game, a 1-1 game turned into an 8-1 lead for the Panthers after the top of the second inning. Adelphi was able to score seven runs in the inning with just four hits. Two of the runs came on sacrifices while Andrews knocked in three runs with a homerun to centerfield.
Three more runs in the fourth gave the Brown and Gold an 11-2 lead that forced the game into a five-inning victory. Andrews picked up her 10
th win of the season behind 5.0 innings of work with six strikeouts.
The Panthers dip into non-conference action this Saturday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Post in Waterbury, CT.
