Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University softball squad picked up a split earlier today at Janet L. Ficke Field against Northeast-10 Conference foe Pace. The Panthers suffered a 2-0 setback in game one before breaking out the bats in a 10-1 nightcap victory.

Senior pitcher Katie Andrews was stellar on both sides of the ball. She went 4-for-6 from the plate with an RBI while also pitching 7.0 innings throughout both games, including the complete game win in the second. Meanwhile, senior outfielder Courtney Sullivan drove in three runs with two hits, including a double to help Adelphi improve to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

With the two-game split, Pace moves to 5-14 overall and 4-5 in league play. Junior shortstop Jeane Drury notched three hits for the Setters. Meanwhile, junior pitcher Caitlin McCann went the distance in the first game for the shutout victory.
A two-run third inning in the opener was all McCann needed. Both RBIs were credited to freshman infielder Haley Harnandez. Hernandez singled up the middle with two outs to manufacture the only runs of the contest.

McCann allowed just five Adelphi hits and one walk on the way to her second victory of the season.
The combination of Andrews' pitching and the Panther bats coming alive pushed Adelphi to a convincing 10-1 win in the second game. Six different Panthers collected an RBI in the victory as Sullivan posted all three of her RBI in the contest.

After falling behind 1-0 after the top of the first inning, Adephi quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half. Freshman outfielder Niki Barbato singled in the first run while sophomore catcher Stephanie Barbaro was hit by a pitched with the bases loaded to score the second run.

The insurance runs continued in the third and fourth innings as the Panthers scored three and four runs in those frames respectively. Sullivan highlighted the third with a double to left field scoring Andrews and Barbato. The fourth witnessed five different at-bats driving in a run, concluded by a single up the middle from freshman infielder Danielle Cutuli.

Ficke Field will host another NE-10 doubleheader tomorrow as the Panthers host Southern Connecticut State for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.
