Nick Watson and
Salvatore Tuttle combined to score 10 of the Panthers 21 goals in a 21-11 Northeast-10 conference victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, March 29 in Manchester, New Hampshire. With the win, the #2 ranked Adelphi University men's lacroses team remains unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference action, while the Penmen fall to 1-5 and 1-3 in the NE-10.
Watson led all players with a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists, while Tuttle chipped in six points, courtesy of five goals of his own and an assist.
Nick Susko,
Brandon Goodwin,
Ikerson Hopper and
Robert Rossi all added double digit points for the Panthers with three goals and an assist for Susko, two goals for Goodwin and one goal and one assist for both Hopper and Rossi.
Tyler Felice Jennings led the Adelphi defense with three caused turnovers, while
Gregory Puskuldjian controlled the face-off "X" for the Panthers, winning 17 of his 25 attempts and collecting 10 ground balls.
Aidan Bennardo made eight stops in the win, while
DJ Mauro made seven saves and
John McGrath was credited with one stop.
Adelphi and Southern NH traded goals to open the contest, but tallies from Puskuldjian, Susko and Watson, all in the final 2:40, gave the Panthers a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes of play. The second quarter was almost a mirror image of the first, as the Panthers and Penmen traded goals to open the period. However, this time the Brown and Gold would rip off four unanswered goals, including two from Watson, to waltz into halftime with a comfortable, 11-4 lead.
The third stanza was all about runs, with the first coming off the sticks of Southern NH. Tuttle opened the scoring, but the Penmen responded with three straight goals, getting within five tallies, 12-7. However, another Watson score kicked off a four goal spurt that pushed the Brown and Gold to a 16-7 lead, before another Penmen goal made it a 16-8 contest with just 15 minutes remaining. The final quarter was all Adelphi, as the visitors scored five of the eight goals in the period, incluind the final three to collect a 21-11 victory.
The Panthers were superior to the hosts in every measurable statistic, taking more shots, 65-46, winning more face-offs, 21-11 and picking up more ground balls, 38-29.
