Ficke Field. After taking the first game by a score of 7-3 courtesy of 11 hits, they continued the trend and racked up another 10 hits to win the second in a 5-0 shutout. The two wins put them at 8-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Purple Knights continue to look for their first victory as they slip to 0-10, 0-2 NE-10.
Â
Game One
The Purple Knights wasted no time getting on the board after they capitalized on a leadoff triple by Greer Lemnah in the first as she scored on a wild pitch by
Lindsay Mapes. However,
Victoria Wink responded in the bottom of the inning on the initial pitch of her at bat when she cranked a home run over the left center wall to make it a 1-1 affair.
Â
Wink came up big once again in the third when she drove in teammate
Jaclyn Binstock for the go-ahead run. Katie Andrew's sacrifice fly sent in
Danielle Cutuli to make it a 3-1 contest. Another big inning was right around the corner after the Panthers drove in three runs in the fourth with production coming from
Jordan Catalano,
Stephanie Barbaro, Binstock, Reichelt and Cutuli.
Â
With a comfortable 6-1 cushion heading into the fifth, St. Michael's managed one run in the top of the fifth and seventh, but another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on a double by
Stephanie Barbaro would be more than enough as the Panthers came away with the 7-2 victory.
Â
Lindsay Mapes earned the victory in the circle after hurling five solid innings and giving up just two runs on six hits while fanning one.
Â
Game Two
The second game featured an impressive pitching performance from Andrews. The hurler tossed six innings, did not allowing a single run and gave up just three hits and three walks to secure the win and boost her record to 6-4.
Â
Run support was once again provided with two, multiple-run innings beginning with the second. An Andrews single followed up by a Barbato double set the stage for a two-run second. Sullvan ripped a single down the right field line to drive in her teammates and make it a 2-0 game. Following up in the fifth, Cutuli lead off with a single and advanced to second on a walk by Wink. Back-to-back singles by Barbato and Catalano gave the Brown and Gold a 4-0 advantage.
Â
St. Michael's threatened with two in scoring position in the top of the fifth, but the Panthers got out of the jam to keep the scoreboard unblemished and their counterparts at bay. Binstock's lead off walk in the sixth resulted in an RBI for Andrews as she looped a single into shallow center. The Purple Knights were unable to overcome the five-run deficit and went were turned away in the top of the sixth as the Panthers recorded their second victory on the day, 5-0.
