Box Score Mars Hill, NC - The third ranked Adelphi University men's lacrosse team continued their 2014 season opening southern swing in Mars Hill, North Carolina on Thursday, March 26, taking on Mars Hill. The Panthers out scored the Lions, 5-3 in the opening quarter and never relinquished the lead, collecting a 13-6 victory. With the win, Adelphi returns to Garden City with a perfect record of 2-0, while Mars Hill falls to 0-3.
Nick Watson led the Panther attack with three goals and an assist, while
Salvatore Tuttle netted three goals as well.
Tim Daly chipped in two goals to the cause, while
Jamie McAndrew picked up three helpers and
Cory Stavis had one goal and one assist.
Gregory Puskuldjian helped Adelphi control the game, winning a game-high 12 face-offs and picking up 12 ground balls, while Watson grabbed eight ground balls.
Aidan Bennardo collected his second win of the season, making five stops in a game where Adelphi out shot the home team, 42-20, collected more ground balls, 42-20 and won more face-offs, 14-7.
The Brown and Gold jumped on the Lions from the opening whistle, ripping off three goals in the first 5:49. Adelphi and Mars Hill would then trade goals twice, before the Lions netted a third goal, as time expired, which made the score 5-3. Adelphi opened strong for the second straight quarter, scoring the first two goals of the frame, but the hosts would respond with two of their own, making it a 7-5 game with 4:56. A Stavis tally just 2:13 later would send the Panthers into the locker room with a three goal cushion, 8-5.
The second half opened with Adelphi leading by three, and was all Panthers, with the Brown and Gold out scoring Mars Hill, 3-1 in the third frame and 2-0 in the fourth frame. The goals came courtesy of five different players and gave Adelphi a dominating 13-6 victory.
