Men's Basketball Edges Out Goldey-Beacom, 83-74

A nine-point halftime lead afforded the Panthers a 83-74 victory tonight.

Garden City, NY - Four players scored in double-figures for the Adelphi University men's basketball who led wire-to-wire in a 83-74 non-conference home victory against Goldey-Beacom earlier this evening.

Senior forward Duane Morgan recorded his third "double-double" of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (4-5). Junior guard Anthony Libroia added 19 points and five assists while Michael Coffey and Boris Fodouop combined for 22 points. Adelphi also held a 20-11 advantage in free throws made.

The Lightning (3-6) controlled the paint scoring 42-34 as Chris Gebhart notched 25 points and 11 rebounds from his center position. Domineek Owens went 8-for-11 from the free throw line towards 20 points.

The Brown and Gold jumped out to a 19-9 after an 8-0 run that was capped off with two free throws from Libroia. However, the Lightning went on their own run of 6-0 to cut the lead to 19-16 with 8:23 remaining.

Leading 34-30 in the final stages of the first half, Adelphi went on a 5-0 run in the 43 seconds that included a 3-pointer from Kyle McLeggan and a steal and finish from Damon Coleman to end the half. Morgan notched eight points and seven boards in the half while Gebhart put forth 10 points and five rebounds for Goldey-Beacom. Coleman ended the period with three of the team's six steals.

The Panthers manufactored a double-digit lead for a majority of the second half, growing a lead to as large as 15 with 2:51 left thanks to another steal from Coleman and a finish on the break from Libroia. Additionally, Adelphi converted eight free throws in the final moments to secure the victory.

Morgan, Libroia, and Coffey all scored 12 points each in the final half with the Panthers shooting 63.6 percent (14-for-22) from the floor. Keeping in the game, the Lightning registered 15 second chance points that included nine offensive rebounds.

Adelphi is back in action after on Saturday, December 20 with a non-conference trip out east on Long Island to Dowling College for a 3:00 pm tip.
