Garden City, NY – Two first half goals stood up for the Adelphi University men's soccer in tonight's 2-1 Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinal win against visiting Le Moyne.
The Panthers were aggressive to start the contest and that resulted in an early goal in the sixth minute.
Federico De Oliveira controlled the ball through the middle of the box and fed a through ball to
Shane McLaughlin that the forward finished to lower left side of the goal, past the diving Dolphin goalie, Ben Beaury.
Adelphi continued to press the offensive half of the field by going up 2-0 in the 19
th minute.
John Sabal crossed from the left flank to find
Juan Aguiar on the opposite side, finishing the pass on a header inside the right post.
Le Moyne started to gain momentum at the end of the first half by posting three corners compared to allowing two; however, the Panthers went into the halftime break with a 7-4 shot advantage. Beaury and
Ahmad Salamah each made one save for their respective teams in between the posts.
The Dolphins nearly cut the lead in half for the Panthers early on in the second half with Alexander Lautner creating open space in front of the goal. In the end, Lautner's attempt was blocked away after a few moves to his left.
Late in the second half, Le Moyne got on the board with a tally in the 82
nd minute. Fabian Egger rebounded a deflection in front of the net to cut the Panther lead to 2-1. From there, the Panther defense was able to keep the Dolphins out of their end and push forward to let the clock hit zero.
Adelphi put forth seven shots in each half to finish with a 14-10 advantage in attempts while also leading corners, 8-4. Beaury made five saves for the Dolphins in the second period to end the night with six total while Salamah made two stops.
The Brown and Gold move onto the NE-10 semifinal round with the victory, traveling to face the number two seed Southern Connecticut State on Friday. Game time is still to be determined.
