Garden City, NY - The Adelphi University women's basketball team earned its sixth straight victory after defeating Millersville University in non-conference action Sunday afternoon by an 81-50 decision. Senior
Kelly Mannix highlighted the game with her 1,000th point in the first half, reaching the milestone with less than five minutes remaining. Adelphi improves to 6-0, while t
he visitors fall to 3-3 overall. Leading the offense for the Brown and Gold was Mannix who completed her third double-double of the season season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Behind her,
Anh-Dao Tran had 12 points and eight other Panthers came off the bench to contribute 38 points. For the Marauders, Carly Gallagher led the team with 19 points from 5-8 shooting from the field and 8-10 at the free throw line.
Jumping out to a hot start, the Panthers held an eight-point lead just seven minutes into the game. A three-pointer by Millersville's Alex Stam decreased the hosts' lead to five and foul trouble for Adelphi allowed the Marauders to tie the game at 14-14 halfway through the first. Back-to-back shots from downtown by Mannix with four minutes left increased the home lead to 11 and also put her in the Adelphi history books as a member of the 1,000 points club. Heading into the locker room, the visitors trailed by 18 and Tran led all players with 10 points.
Shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc in the second half alone, Adelphi held a 28-point lead with seven minutes remaining. Sophomore
Emily Brandt came off the bench to net her first collegiate three-pointer at 5:24. While holding their largest lead of the game, freshman Janté Bracewell scored the second layup of her career for a 76-44 score. Bracewell's classmate
Natalie Fekula sealed the deal for Adelphi, and she scored her first basket in a Panther uniform with 19 seconds remaining for a final score of 81-50.
