Rochester, NY – The first win is in the books for Head Coach
David Duke as the Adelphi University men's basketball team picked up a 98-70 victory at Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play earlier today.
Senior
Duane Morgan scored 18 of his game-high 26 points in the second half while also hauling in eight rebounds. Freshman
Michael Coffey shot 6-for-6 from the charity stripe along with four 3-pointers on the way to 20 points. Junior
Anthony Libroia added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds while sophomore
Justin Jenkins registered 16 points shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line.
The Redhawks (1-2) had three players score double-figures led by 17 from Isaac Medeiros. Medeiros also added seven rebounds, two steals, and a block. Mike Stone and Marcus Gooding each added 12 points
Freshman
Michael Coffey had the early touch by knocking down three 3-pointers in the opening seven minutes and helping the Panthers (1-4) create a 20-12 advantage. Coffey helped ignite his teammates as well in the first half as the Brown and Gold shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) from the field that included 7-for-14 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc to lead 43-30 at the half. He finished with 12 points in the half, hitting four of the team's seven 3-pointers.
Adelphi benefitted from getting to the free throw line early in the second half went up 65-43 by converting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe capped off by three from Coffey with 12:19 left in the contest.
The Panthers continued to build their lead on the way to victory by outscoring the Redhawks 55-40 in the final period. Overall, the Brown and Gold shot 55.9 percent from the field and 19-for-22 from the free throw line, going 19-for-21 after the halftime break. Additionally, Adelphi converted 23 points off 13 turnovers from Roberts Wesleyan.
The Panthers continue non-conference play this Monday by hosting Queens for a 7:30 pm tilt inside the Center for Recreation and Sport.
