Strong Second Half Lifts Saint Rose Past Men's Basketball, 79-65

The host Golden Knights shot 51.9 percent from the field in the second half en route to victory.

Albany, NY – A strong second half helped The College of Saint Rose close out a 79-65 home victory against the Adelphi University men's basketball earlier this evening in Northeast-10 Conference action.

Junior Anthony Libroia posted 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds for the Panthers (0-4/0-3 NE-10). Senior Duane Morgan added 15 points and six rebounds while junior Ryan DeNicola contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Adelphi controlled the paint with a 32-18 inside scoring advantage.

The host Golden Knights (4-1/2-1 NE-10) finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (27-for-55) from the field as five players registered double-figures. Freshman Jack Jones led the team with 16 points while junior Chris Dorgler added 15 points. Additionally, junior Max Weaver rounded out his night with 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Early in the first half, the Panthers erased a 14-8 deficit with back-to-back three-pointers from freshman Michael Coffey and sophomore Damon Coleman. Libroia then gave the Brown and Gold the lead at 16-14 with a layup halfway through the first half.

Coleman hit a runner in the final seconds of the first period to bring Adelphi within four at 35-31 at the halftime break after Saint went on an 8-1 run in the final three minutes. The opening 20 minutes featured six lead changes and two ties with both teams shooting better than 44 percent from the field and combing for 10 3-pointers.

Seven players figured into the scoring column for the Panthers in the half while Dorgler and freshman Jamaal Greenwood combined for 21 points for the Golden Knights. Saint Rose assisted on 12 of its 13 field goals; however, Adelphi led 14-6 in points in the paint.

The Golden Knights quickly grew its second half lead by scoring 11 of the first 13 points and establishing a 46-33 lead thanks to six straight points from Weaver. Another basket following Weaver's outburst established a 15-point lead for Saint Rose, the largest lead of the game.

Libroia helped the Panthers cut into the lead with seven minutes remaining with a pair of free throws to bring the game to 55-48. Libroia followed a Morgan dunk on the break to give the Brown and Gold momentum.

Despite attempts from Adelphi to cut into the lead, 51.9 percent (14-for-27) shooting and 15 free throws in the final period closed out the final margin for Saint Rose. The Golden Knights outscored the Panthers 44-34 in the second half after the four-point halftime lead.

The Panthers enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday the next few days before returning to action on the road this Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for 2:00 pm from Rochester, NY
