Women's Hoops Earns First Road Win Over American Int'l, 52-47

Springfield, Mass. – In their lowest scoring game thus far, the Adelphi University women's basketball team battled the Yellow Jackets of American International College to a favorable 52-47 decision. Despite trailing for a better part of the game, the Panthers rolled to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play while the hosts fall to 1-2 and 0-1 in the Northeast-10.

The Adelphi offense was led by Kelly Mannix and Calli Balfour who contributed 12 and 10 points respectively. The pair also combined for 25 rebounds in the victory. Newcomer Sierra Clark came off the bench to account for nine points and five rebounds.

For AIC, Brianna Bishop led the squad with 12 points as teammates Krista Ferrentino and Sydney Tepley accounted for 11 and 10 points, respectively while contributing nine rebounds apiece.

The Yellow Jackets took their first timeout after the Panthers went on a 9-2 run early in the game as contributions by Balfour and Anh-Dao Tran made the score 11-4 with 14:34 remaining. AIC's Ferrentino drained a jumper to give AIC their second lead of the game with under four minutes to play in the first half, 20-19. Both teams covered the length of the court multiple times before anyone scored due to turnovers and rebounds.

To start the second half, the Brown and Gold jumped out on an 8-0 run to eliminate the deficit they faced when they headed into the locker room at halftime and regained the lead 29-27.

A timeout on the floor with 9:43 to play, American Int'l held both a 37-33 lead and the rebound advantage over the Panthers. A crucial three pointer by Tara Flynn at 8:28 brought the visitors within one, while swift lay-in by Mannix allowed Adelphi to regain the lead, 40-39. Bishop hit a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to put her squad just one possesion behind the Brown and Gold, 50-47, but the hosts were unable to capitalize as the Yellow Jackets committed fouls that sent several Panthers to the line.

The Panthers return to NE-10 action on Tuesday, November 25 as they travel to the College of Saint Rose to take on the Golden Knights at 5:30 p.m.
