Field Hockey Falls to Stonehill in NE-10 Semifinals, 3-1

Easton, MA - The Adelphi University field hockey program earned the #3 seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament after finishing 13-5 overall and advanced to the semifinals after defeating #6 Bentley University last Tuesday. Thursday afternoon the Panthers traveled to #2 Stonehill University in a contest that concluded 3-1 in favor of the hosts. Adelphi finishes the season at 14-6 overall as the Skyhawks move on to the championship game against LIU Post this Saturday.

Molly Cuevas, a First-Team All-Conference selection this season was the lone Panther to score for Adelphi in the loss on an assist from All-Rookie selection Samantha Nizich. Kelly Serrao, despite allowing three goals by the Skyhawks, picked up 12 saves. Rubenstein, who was named to the Second-Team collected her 13th defensive save this year.

Stonehill was first to strike, scoring twenty minutes into the first half of an Elizabeth Thornton and Emily Sideris combo on a drive from the left side. The hosts would strike one more time before Cuevas found the back of the cage to trail 2-1. Sealing the deal for the Purple and White was Erika Kelly, with her 25th goal of the season. With a 15-6 shot advantage in the first half alone, Stonehill will advance to the championship game against LIU Post.

With a #3 ranking in the region, the Panthers will await their fate as the NCAA Selection show will air on  Sunday, November 23rd at 1 p.m. on NCAA.com. The live show can be watched here.
