Field Hockey Outlasts Saint Anselm in 3-2 Overtime Win

Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University field hockey program picked up their tenth win of the season Saturday afternoon as they defeated Saint Anselm 3-2 in overtime. The squad improves to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 as the hosts fall to 6-6 and 2-5 in league play.

Three different Panthers scored in the victory by means of Olivia Nowowkunski, Briana Rubenstein and Molly Cuevas. Rachel Colvin, Samantha Nizich and Cuevas all recorded assists on those goals and Rubenstein collected her tenth defensive save this season.  Sharing time in the Panther cage, Kelly Serrao and Amanda Gargiulo combined for seven saves, collecting 4 and 3, respectively.

Wasting no time, Nowokunski put the Brown and Gold on the board first, scoring within the first three minutes of the game off a cross from the right side from Colvin. Saint Anselm responded thirteen minutes later as Meagan Halligan was offered a pass from Emma Kincaid to tie the game at 1-1. The hosts took the lead the before the half on an unassisted shot from Mia Vecchione, 2-1.

Trailing with less than fifteen minutes to play, Rubenstein powered a hard shot to the left side of the Hawk cage and goalkeeper Katherine Sears to lock the scored at two apiece. In overtime Saint Anselm held a 3-1 advantage in both shots and penalty corners but were unable to get past Gargiulo in net. Off their only awarded corner in OT, Nizich set up Cuevas who blasted a shot into the top right corner for her fourth goal of the season and first gamewinner this year.

Adelphi will travel to Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, November 4 before returning on Saturday November 8 to host Saint Michael's College and celebrate senior day on Motamed Field at 1 p.m.
