Men's Soccer Upends Assumption 2-0

The Panthers scored two first half goals on the way to tonight's 2-0 victory

Garden City, NY - Two goals towards the end of the first half was enough for the Adelphi University men's soccer team to defeat Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption 2-0 earlier this evening on Motamed Field.

Sophomore Caelan Hueber scored the first strike as senior Diego Zuniga sent a short pass to the corner of the 18-yard box that Hueber sent inside the right post to put the Panthers (6-4/4-3 NE-10) up 1-0 in the 34th minute. Almost exactly six minutes later, the Brown and Gold utilized the top of the box as senior Juan Aguiar played a through ball from freshman Federico De Oliveira, finishing in the bottom left half of the net.

Adelphi ended the first half, with an 11-3 advantage in shots as well as a 3-0 lead in corner kicks. The momentum carried into the second period, however, the Panthers were unable to find the back of the net with seven more shots to total 18 in the contest. The attack forced Greyhound (1-7-1/1-4-1 NE-10) goalkeeper Dana King to make seven saves in the match.

"Very happy for the team on it's win," said Head Coach Carlo Acquista. "Assumption is very well coached and spirited, organized group. Juan and Caelan did well to get on the board tonight. It is a quick turnaround for our trip to Saint Michael's this Saturday."

The Brown and Gold begin the first of two straight conference road matches on Saturday at 11:00 am, traveling to Colchester, VT for to face the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's.
