Late Strike Gives Visiting Pace 1-0 Win Against Women's Soccer

The Setters scored in the 85th minute to upend the Panthers 1-0 this evening.

Garden City, NY – Nearly 85 minutes of scoreless action went by before the visiting Pace Setters struck in the 85th minute to upend the Adelphi University women's soccer team 1-0 earlier this evening on Motamed Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Sophomore forward Alyssa Zeoli collected a ball from Nicole Blair on the top left corner of the 18-yard box, dribbled once right, and stung a shot into the top left corner to break the tie late in the second half and propel the Setters (5-6/4-4 NE-10) to the 1-0 win.

A defensive matchup in the first half resulted in the Panthers (6-3-1/3-3-1) having a narrow 5-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 lead in corners. Eight different individuals from each team represented the eight shots taken in the half with each goalkeeper, Adelphi senior Sam Whitney and Pace freshman Lauran DeSousa, forced to make one save.

The Brown and Gold pushed the attack more in the second stanza, taking 10 shots and seven corners while allowing only two shots to Pace. However, the second was the decisive game-winner for Zeoli. Freshman Aisha Chauhan earned the victory with two saves in the second half in between the posts.

Six different Adelphi individuals connected for two shots, with sophomore midfielder Victoria Antonino putting both of her attempts on-goal.

Next for the Panthers is an 11:00 am conference road game at Bentley this Saturday, the first of two straight away contests.
