Oakdale, NY – Host Dowling and the Adelphi University men's soccer team played to a scoreless non-conference draw after one period of overtime with the game called before the start of the second overtime due to lightning.
Both teams created five shots with one each coming on-goal. The Panthers (9-4-1) manufactured two corner kicks while not allowing one to the Golden Lions (7-5-2). Sophomore
Shane McLaughlin led Adelphi with two shots while Chris Posillico took two attempts for Dowling.
A combined 17 shots, 10 from Dowling, were taken in the second period; however, neither team was able to get past the other's goalkeeper as senior
Ahmad Salamah and his counterpart, Chris Friedl, ended regulation with five saves each. McLaughlin added three more shots in the half to pace the Panther attack.
Before the game was called due to the area weather, the Golden Lions managed two shot attempts to Adelphi's one in 10 minutes of overtime. Adelphi ended the game with a 6-2 lead in corner kicks with Salamah making six saves for the Brown and Gold.
Adelphi returns to action this Saturday, jumping back into conference play on the road to face Bentley in Waltham, MA. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 am.
