Women's Soccer Picks Up 2-0 Win Against Le Moyne

A goal in each half led the Panthers to a crucial Northeast-10 Conference victory against Le Moyne.

Garden City, NY – A match involving two teams tied in the Northeast-10 Conference standings entering the day resulted in a 2-0 win for the Adelphi University women's soccer team against visiting Le Moyne earlier this evening on Motamed Field.

After keeping the ball in their end for a majority of the first half, freshman forward Jeanine Nunez put the Panthers (9-4-1/6-4-1 NE-10) on the board with a strike in the 31st minute. Nunez played a trickling ball in the box that flicked on by Laura Gomez, who initially deflected the cross from Victoria Antonino. Nunez finished on the left side, scoring low right side.

At the break, the Brown and Gold held the 1-0 lead thanks to a 8-0 advantage in shots while also creating three corners and yielding none. Nunez and Antonino both struck for two shots as Le Moyne (7-7-1/5-5-1 NE-10) keeper Tori Corsaro made two saves in the first period.

The Dolphins started to create more opportunities in the second stanza, generating six shots in the first 40 minutes. However, the Panthers added an insurance goal in the 87th minute as a midfield free kick from Taylor Salmon turned into a one touch goal from Kelsey Malles, scoring from the left side into the lower right of the net.

Senior keeper Sam Whitney needed to make one save to preserve her fifth shutout of the season. Corsaro made four saves in the decision for the Dolphins. The Panthers finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots while also producing seven corners.

Adelphi is on the road for the next game on the schedule, the final away game of the regular season, with a trip to North Andover, Mass. to face Merrimack on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
