Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to Southern New Hampshire State University for a Northeast-10 Conference contest Tuesday evening. The Panthers scoring spree ended in favor of the visitors with a 7-0 decision. The hosts fall to 1-10 overall as Adelphi improves to 9-2 on the year and 4-0 in league play.
All seven goals were scored in the first half, with
Mary Plotas leading the offense with four.
Lena Pollich,
Olivia Nowokunski and
Molly Cuevas were responsible for the remaining goals. Cuevas also accounted for three assists on the evening as all three Panther goalkeepers saw time in the cage facing 11 total shots and making five saves.
Just under a minute into the first half, Pollich found a way past the Penmen goalie Cassandra Nickerson to take a 1-0 lead. The next five goals played out over the next 12 minutes to give the Brown and Gold a 6-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half. With a 30 to 11 shot advantage over the Penmen, the final goal of the half was a Cuevas to Plotas combo, for a 7-0 lead heading into the locker room.
The Penmen goalie staff finished the evening with 17 saves in the loss.
Adelphi will return to Motamed Field on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. as they host Stonehill College and "Play4theCure". In a combined effort by the Northeast-10 and The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) to "Play4theCure" teams across all divisions are joining the cause on some level. Longstreth has donated a pink ceremonial game ball and bracelets will be sold at the game. Anyone wishing to support either can give donations to head coach
