Garden City, NY – On a day where Adelphi University honored the 2004 women's soccer team, the current women's soccer team put forth an all-around effort in a 3-0 victory against Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference earlier today.
Sophomore
Victoria Antonino played a cross perfectly into the middle of the field to set up freshman
Jeanine Nunez with a one touch goal into the bottom of the net, giving the Panthers an 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.
The Panthers went into halftime with the 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard as well as a 5-1 lead in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks.
Saint Anselm nearly tied the match less than 10 minutes into the second half as Rachel Gillies shot went wide with the pressure from senior keeper
Sam Whitney coming out her net forcing the misdirection. Furthermore, Nunez almost struck for her second of the game to push the Panthers up 2-0 in the 64th minute on a cross from
Monica DiDonato, however, Gabriella Primera deflected the chance out of bounds.
In the 73rd minute, Nunez was on the front end of Adelphi's second strike, feeding
Sarah Barone Stern off a scramble in front of the net. Barone Stern chipped it above Primera's reach from inside the 18-yard box.
Donna Liotine added the third goal in the 83rd minute with a penalty kick after a foul in the box.
Adelphi finished with a 15-4 edge in shots as well as 5-2 in corners. Whitney needed to make just one save in the first 84 minutes while
