West Haven, CT – Looking to extend a modest two-game winning streak, the Adelphi University men's soccer struck early and often in a 6-1 victory at New Haven earlier this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Junior forward
Shane McLaughlin scored the first two goals for the Panthers (8-4/6-3 NE-10), his first two of the season, barely one minute apart. His first tally came a on a 3-on-1 break that he shot into the lower right side after a pass from senior
Diego Zuniga in the 10th minute. In the 11th minute, McLaughlin played a clearing ball from senior goalkeeper
Ahmad Salamah on one bounce and put a touch out of the reach of Charger (2-10/1-7 NE-10) goalie Marc Scelsa.
The third strike of the first half came from junior midfielder
Will Rezin. Rezin fired a 20-yard shot from the left wing after collecting the ball from the middle to put the third goal on the board for Adelphi. The Brown and Gold ended the first period with a 10-4 advantage in shots and 4-3 in corners. In addition to his assist, Salamah made two saves in goal.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Rezin added an assist to his stat line when his initial shot attempted rebounded to freshman
Matt Giaconelli, who finished and pushed the advantage to 4-0.
The host Chargers got on the board in the 72nd minute as Emil Thomsen connected on a header. However, Freshman
Federico De Oliveira responded less than a minute later with a 1-on-1 strike into the lower right side of the net.
Freshman
Kenneth Indergard put another insurance goal on the board in the 88th minute off a rebound for his first of the season. The Brown and Gold finished with a 22-10 advantage in shots while New Haven controlled a 6-5 lead in corners. Scelsa made eight saves for the Chargers while Salamah made three saves and
Spenser Powell came into action to make one on two shots faced.
