Colvin's Two Goals Propels Field Hockey Past American Int'l

Garden City, NY - The No. 7 Adelphi University field hockey program picked up their second Northeast-10 Conference win Saturday afternoon after defeating American International College 2-1. The Brown and Gold rolls to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference as the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-5 on the year and 0-2 in league play.

Rachel Colvin scored both goals for the Panthers giving her three for the year. Molly Cuevas picked up the first assist for 10 on the year and Mary Plotas grabbed the second, giving her four this season. Kelly Serrao had four saves in the win as the Adelphi defense held the Yellow Jackets to just five shots the entire game.

Colvin lit the scoreboard up for the Brown and Gold just three and a half minutes into the game off a pass from Cuevas following a corner. The Black and Gold's Kaylin Harbin tied the game ten minutes into the second half after being granted a penalty stroke. Colvin closed the game with a second shot off a pass from Plotas just seven minutes later.

"It's great to pick up a win after not playing earlier in the week," said head coach Gloria O'Connor. "It's important that the girls stay focused and prepare for next's Saturday's away game against Bentley."

The Panthers will travel for the next two upcoming NE-10 contests against Bentley University and Southern New Hampshire State University before returning to Motamed Field on Saturday, October 25th against Stonehill College at 1 p.m. That Saturday, the teams will be "Playing for the Cure", an initiative sponsored by the NFHCA.This is an initiative that the NFHCA is supporting and most schools in Division I, II,and III are participating in at some level.
