Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University field hockey team, ranked No. 8 in the most recent NFCA Coaches' Poll, improved to a perfect 3-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play after a 1-0 decision against Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The loss causes the Falcons to fall to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Mary Plotas was responsible for the lone goal for the Panthers (8-2, 3-0 NE-10), halfway through the second half of play.
Lena Pollich picked up the assist, her second of the year.
Kelly Serrao had eight saves in the win.
Much of the first half was spent in Adelphi territory, as Bentley placed nine shots on goal in the first half alone. After entering the locker room at a 0-0 standstill, both teams came out firing in the second half as the Panthers took six shots and the Falcons repeated with nine. Adelphi was awarded five total corners in the second half to Bentley's three. With under 20 minutes to play, a Pollich to Plotas combo connected from just inside the circle to be the eventual game-winner.
The Panthers return to the field on Tuesday, October 21 to face Southern New Hampshire State University in Manchester, New Hampshire at 6 p.m. The Brown and Gold will return to Motamed Field on Saturday, October 25 as they support breast cancer and "Play For a Cure" at 1 p.m. against Stonehill College.
