Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University earlier this afternoon. Despite falling behind midway through the first half, the Panthers rallied to tie in the second half of regulation and send the game to overtime. However, the Penmen controlled proceedings in the extra frame and netted the game-winner a little over seven minutes in to serve Adelphi the 2-1 loss. In defeat, the Panthers fall to 3-4 and 2-1 in conference play while the Penmen improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northeast-10.
 
In an evenly played opening half, the Panthers fell behind in the 26th minute of action as Sebastian Stezewski took a low shot off a header from Dominic Samuel which found its way past Ahmad Salamah to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead. That proved to be enough to give the visitors the lead at halftime, as each of the Panthers' five shots in the first frame came up empty. 
 
In the second half, the Panthers rallied to tie the game at 1-1 courtesy of Diego Zuniga. The junior midfielder took a cross from teammate Alejandro Penzini from the left side and tapped it in past a diving Dom DiMaggio to knot the action at 1-1. It proved to be one of only four shots in the second half for Adelphi, as the Penmen dominated in that statistical category with 15 total shots in the second frame. Nonetheless, Salamah withstood the offensive barrage as he made a total of six saves in the second half to keep his team afloat. 
 
The Penmen had one final chance to win the game in regulation when Miguel Carniero made room and took a shot in the 89th minute, but it rebounded off the crossbar and was cleared out by the Adelphi defense. It proved to be the last scoring threat for either side and the game headed to overtime.
 
In extra time, the Penmen controlled the early pace of play as Kenny Doublette took the first shot of overtime just 57 seconds in. Salamah picked up a save, and the two teams continued to battle evenly for the next six minutes. But the Penmen would not be denied. After a Mohamed Toufik shot was blocked by the Brown and Gold, Samuel picked up the deflected loose ball in front of the net and tapped in for the unassisted game-winner to send the visitors home with a victory.
 
In total, the Penmen outshot the Panthers 23-9 and dominated in corner kicks, 6-1. Salamah made a career high nine saves in the loss, while his counterpart Dom DiMiaggio made two in the win.

"I am extremely proud of the boys effort all game," stated Head Coach Carlo Acquista. "We played a very good SNHU team who are extremely well coached, very talented and deep off the bench. We will keep getting better through the season and we are looking forward to training and the next match.
