Manchester, N.H.- The Adelphi University field hockey team captured its second win on the road thanks to a game-winning goal in overtime by Mary Plotas to push the Panthers past Saint Anselm College 2-1 in non-conference action. Adelphi improves to 3-2 overal while the Hawks fall to 2-3.
Saint A's was first to strike as Kelsey Leblanc found the back of the goal, just 13 minutes into the first half. Knotting the score at one would be Plotas who found a way around Whittemore just 44 seconds into the second half.
Tied at two just three minutes into the extra session, Adelphi potted the game winner as Plotas collected a pass in the middle of the circle from Molly Cuevas and sent a reverse stick shot past sophomore goalkeeper Shauna Whittemore.
Leading the Panther offense was Plotas with two goals, as Cuevas registered two assists and Lena Pollich added a goal of her own. Goalkeeper Kelly Serrao worked all 73 minutes in the cage, having four saves, while Hawks goalkeeper Whittemore had nine.
Adelphi held a 25-10 advantage in penalty corners and also outshot the Hawks 15-13.
Coach's Thoughts on the Game
"An overtime win on the road is always great," said Head Coach Gloria O'Connor. "However we need to balance our attack better and put more shots in the cage. We will focus on that this week as we head into conference play."

The Panthers play host to Limestone College on Monday, September 23 on Motamed Field at 3 p.m. Later in the week, American International College will travel to Garden City on Wednesday, September 25 to play under the lights at 7 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference play will begin the following weeked as Adelphi travels to Merrimack College on Saturday, September 28.
