Box Score Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team faced off against #4 New Haven on Sunday, May 12 for the right to advance to the NCAA Division II Super Regional in Brookville, New York at LIU-Post. The Panthers used a six run fourth inning to power past the Chargers, improving to 41-17 overall and advancing to the Super Regional for the first time in program history.

Adelphi picked up one run in the bottom of the first when Katie Andrews worked a bases loaded walk, scoring Emily Dorko with no outs. Unfortunately, that was all the Panthers would get in that inning as Micah Stonesifer set the next two batters down swinging and looking and then induced a ground out to end the inning.

The Brown and Gold added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a two out single up the middle from Victoria Wink, that plated Dorko and Heather Salerno, 3-0. After a quiet third inning, Adelphi exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first two runs came off the bat of Wink, who doubled to left center, scoring Dorko and Rieger. Andrews followed that up with a two run single to right, pushing Wink and Caird across home plate and leaving Andrews on first. However, she wouldn't spend much time there, as Meghan Heiser slammed a two run bomb down the line in left, giving the Panthers a six run cushion.

The Chargers used a three run double to center, off the bat of Lindsey Couturier in the top of the fifth to chip away at the Panther lead and followed that up with a two run single from Christina Gelardi in the top of the sixth to put the pressure on Adelphi, 9-5. However, Devon Kelly would set the Chargers down in the top of the seventh, including striking out the final batter of the game to punch Adelphi's ticket into the Super Regional.

Laurin Watts picked up her 22nd win of the season, pitching the first five innings, striking out five and walking three, while Kelly tossed two inning of relief striking out one and walking two.

Wink led the Panther offense, going 3-4 with one run scored and four rbi, while Andrews was 1-3 with one run and three rbi and Heiser chipped in two rbi and was 1-3. In addition Caird was 3-4 with a run scored, Dork was 1-3 at the plate with three runs scored and Salerno was 2-4.

The Panthers will face off against Molloy College next weekend in the NCAA Division II Super Regional at a venue to be determined.
