Box Score 2 Brookhaven, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team traveled down the road to Brookhaven, New York on Sunday, April 21 to take on former ECC rival Dowling College. The Panthers pulled out a 7-4 victory in game one, getting four rbi from
Elizabeth Lindner and three from
Jaclyn Binstock, however Adelphi dropped game two, 6-3. The split puts the Golden Lions at 24-14 on the season, while the Panthers move to 34-11.
Game One
Dowling came out swinging, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded single and then added three runs on double to right center in the bottom of the second, 4-0. But, with two swings of the bat the Panther took control of the game. Binstock got the ball rolling with a three run home run over the wall in left field, scoring
Katie Andrews and
Emily Dorko in the top of the third, 4-3.
Then in the top of the fifth the Brown and Gold loaded the bases, bringing up Lindner who went the opposite way and smacked a home run over the fence in right field, scoring
Kayla Rieger,
Jeanine Leo and Binstock to push Adelphi out front, 7-4.
That was all the run support that starter
Laurin Watts needed, as she went the distance, striking out five, walking five and picked up her 17th win of the season. Lindner was 2-3 on the day with four rbi and a run scored, while Binstock was 1-2 with two runs scored and three rbi. Dorko managed two hits on the day, going 2-4 with a run scored.
Game Two
The Panthers scored first in the second game of the double header when Lindner grounded out to second allowing Binstock to score after she led off the inning with a double to left. Adelphi added another run in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle off the bat of
Amy Caird, that scored Leo and gave the Panthers a 2-0 cushion.
The Golden Lions tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth, putting two runs on the board with a single up the middle that cleared the bases, 2-2. Dowling would add four more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to left and then a bases clearing double to left center, 6-2.
Adelphi tried to rally in the top of the seventh, but could only muster one run, courtesy of a Binstock single that plated
Heather Salerno, 6-3.
Devon Kelly was hit with the loss, tossing 5.1 innings, striking out two and walking none, while Watts threw 0.2 innings of relief, striking out one.
Victoria Wink, Binstock and Leo all had multi hit games, with Binstock adding a run and an rbi and Leo scoring a run.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 23 when they travel to Brookville, New York to take on cross island rival, LIU-Post at 2:30 pm.
