Springfield, MA – Earlier this evening, the #4 men's lacrosse team hit the road for a Northeast-10 Conference contest against the Yellow Jackets of American International College. After jumping out to a 12-2 lead at halftime, the Panthers flipped on the cruise control and came away with the easy 22-4 win to advance their record to 10-1, 8-1 NE-10 while the hosts drop to 1-12, 0-9 NE-10.
Today marked the fifth time the Panthers reached the 20-goal mark since 2004 and first time the Brown and Gold scored 24 goals since the 2005 season when they defeated LIU-Southampton in the third game of the season, 24-12.
The Panthers had seven players score at least two goals and were led by
Robert Rossi who found the back of the cage three times while adding two assists. Teammates
Salvatore Tuttle and
Anthony Rainone also notched five points on three assists and two scores each.
Kevin Kennedy,
Nick Watson,
Vinny Coiro and
Stephen Beckwith all chipped in with two goals while seven other players recorded one goal. In all, the Brown and Gold had 16 players register at least one point.
Gregory Puskuldjian and
Rashad Cureton continued to impress on face offs, going a combined 19-29 and scooping up a joint 14 ground balls.
Each of Adelphi's goalkeepers saw action with graduate student
Eric Janssen picking up the win after logging the first 30 minutes, allowing just two goals and stopping eight on 15 shots faced.
Aidan Bennardo played the third quarter and allowed two goals while making three saves with
John McGrath and
Keith McDermott splitting the final frame and combining for five saves.
For the hosts, Nick Amendt accounted for three of his team's four goals while Matthew Biggs notched the other one. Brian Kennedy and Michael Palmieri each won five faceoffs while Roger LeDoux suffered the loss in cage after allowing 17 to get by him despite making 16 saves. Jamal Hadley closed out the final quarter and saw five goals reach the back of the net.
Kennedy bookmarked a five-goal first frame on assists from Tuttle and
Joe Celano.
Nick Watson,
Patrick Starke and Tuttle accounted for the other three Panther goals that resulted in a 5-0 first quarter run. Amendt put the Yellow Jackets on the board on a feed from Nick Palermo to close out the period.
The Panthers kept rolling in the second as they found the back of the cage seven more times from seven different players while giving up just one score on the defensive end, putting the game further out of reach by halftime, 12-2.
Three goals from Rossi and one from
Andrew Fiore highlighted the opening minutes of the third to extend the Panther run to eight goals. Biggs and Amendt found the back of the net once each on back-to-back attempts, but the Yellow Jacket's four goals would be as many as they would manage.
Five more goals to close out the fourth closed the books on a dominating 22-4 victory to get the Panthers back on the winning track.
They return to action on Saturday, April 20 when they host the #3 Warriors of Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 showdown at 4pm. The game will be played in conjunction with Senior Day to mark the final home game of the regular season.
