#13 Adelphi Out Runs the Greyhounds, 2-1 and 8-3

The Panthers out hit Assumption 21-11 on the day.

Worcester, MA - The 13th ranked Adelphi University softball team took a pair of Northeast-10 Conference divisional games from Assumption College on Saturday, April 13 at Marois Field. The Panthers took game one by a 2-1 final, followed by an 8-3 margin in the second game, improving to 27-9 overall and 9-2 in the Southwest Division. 

Game One
In the opener, Adelphi jumped on the board in the top of the first as senior Emily Dorko, who had reached on a single, came home on a two-out passed ball for the 1-0 edge. The game remained at 1-0 until the top of the sixth when a Dorko RBI single thru the right side scored Elizabeth Lindner to stretch the lead out to 2-0. Assumption got one back in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff homer to left from Ashley Impagliazzo, but that was as close as the Hounds would get in the 2-1 Adelphi win.

Dorko led the Panthers with three hits in the game, while Meghan Heiser chipped in two. Devon Kelly picked up the win for Adelphi, striking out three and walking two over four innings of work, to improve to 12-4 overall, while Laurin Watts posted her second save of the season with three innings and five strikeouts in the game.

Game Two
In game two, Adelphi jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first on a two-out single by Katie Andrews that scored Dorko for the 1-0 lead. Assumption answered immediately though as an RBI walk from Melissa Jalbert scored Impagliazzo to tie the game. The Panthers put up a pair in the second with an RBI double to right center from Lindner that scored Jeanine Leo, along with Lindner later scoring on an Assumption error.

Assumption tied the game for the final time in the bottom of the third on a run from Lauren Medeiros and an RBI single from Kayli Moniz that scored Jalbert. However, Adelphi would put the game out of reach in the fourth with four runs, including a two-run home to left from Andrewsthat scored Victoria Wink. The other two runs in the inning came on a Jaclyn Binstock jack over the wall in left field and a Wink double that brought around Amy Caird. The Panthers added a single run in the fifth on a Heather Salerno single that allowed Lindner to cross the plate, giving Adelphi a 8-3 win..

Watts through seven innings, collecting her 13th win of the season, while striking out seven batters. Andrews led the offense, going 3-4 with three rbi and a run scored, while Dorko, Binstock and Leo collected two hits each.

Adelphi returns to the field on Sunday, April 14 when they close out their three game set with Assumption at noon in Worcester, Massachusetts.
