Softball Trips Up LeMoyne Twice, 1-0 and 3-2

Adelphi held LeMoyne to just two runs in two games.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to The Dolphins of LeMoyne College on Saturday, March 30 in a Northeast-10 contest on Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers Devon Kelly tossed a complete game shut out to power Adelphi to a 1-0 victory in game one, while a LeMoyne error gave the Panthers a 3-2 win in game two. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 20-6 overall and 6-0 in division, running their win streak to 10 games, while LeMoyne falls to 4-9 overall and is even at 2-2 in the Southwest.

Game One
The story of game one was Kelly, who threw seven complete innings, striking out six, walking none, giving up no runs and allowing just five hits to collect her eighth win of the season. The only real threat from the The Dolphins came in the top of the seventh when they loaded the bases with two outs. However, Kelly closed the door, striking out the final batter of the game looking.

The offense was supplied by Meghan Heiser, who crushed a ball over the wall in left center in the bottom of the second to give Adelphi its final margin of victory, 1-0. Overall the Panthers had three hits on the game, getting one from Heiser and two from Emily Dorko, who also stole a base.

Game Two
The Dolphins got on the board first in the second game, putting up one run in the top of the third on a bases loaded walk. The Panthers answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs, to take back the lead, 2-1. Heather Salerno reached on a two out error that would prove to be costly as she was driven in by a Victoria Wink triple down the right field line, which was followed up by a Katie Andrews single.

The Brown and Gold would cling to the lead until the top of the seventh when LeMoyne a Elizabeth Lindner throw on a steal attempt hit the Dolphin runner, causing the ball to move into left field and allowing the runner to scamper home, knotting the game at two. The game looked like it was headed for extra innings as LeMoyne got a quick out before Lindner double to left center. Dorko would slap the ball toward third and force a rushed throw to first, while Lindner moved to third and headed for home, scoring on a dropped ball error on the first baseman to secure the 3-2 Adelphi win.

Laurin Watts continued her winning ways on the mound for Adelphi, notching her Northeast-10 leading 11th win of the season by going seven innings, striking out nine, walking three and giving up just six hits. Dorko was 3-4, while Wink was 2-3 with a run scored and an rbi. In addition both Katie Andrews, Binstock and Lindner all picked up hits in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 when they play host to Southern Connecticut State University at 3:00 pm on Janet L. Ficke Field.
