Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to LeMoyne College on Friday, March 29 in a single game on Janet L. Ficke Field. Sophomore
Victoria Wink's three run home run powered the Panthers to a 4-1 win. With the win the Brown and Gold improve to 18-6 overall and 4-0 in division, while the Dolphins fall to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the southwest.
The Panthers did all of their damage in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on four hits.
Emily Dorko led off the inning with a single to left and then stole second, followed by
Heather Salerno working a walk to put runners on first and second. Then with one swing of the bat Wink put Adelphi ahead 3-0 with a shot over the wall in left field.
Jeanine Leo followed up with a two out single to left and then stole second, before being driven in by
Meghan Heiser to put Adelphi up four, 4-0.
After scoreless innings, the Dolphins got on the board with an rbi single from Kristen Trotta brought Dementra Kermides around from third to cut the Panther lead to 4-1. However, that was as close as LeMoyne would get, with
Devon Kelly and
Laurin Watts combining to shut down the Dolphins. Kelly threw four innings, striking out two and walking two for the win, while Watts tossed three innings of relief, striking out five and walking three to pick up her first save of the year.
Dorko led the way at the plate, going 2-3 with one run, while Wink was 1-3 with one run and three rbi. Leo and Heiser were responsible for Adelphi's other two hits.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when they close out their three game home stand against LeMoyne, first pitch is scheduled for noon on Janet L. Ficke Field.
